| I've always liked wood. I grew up cutting logs, stave bolts and splitting wood. Even as a kid I was fascinated with the grain and knots… the uniqueness within pieces of wood. Wood has attributes that are not acceptable in flat work, where I started. Turning wood allows those interesting characteristics to be exhibited. When I moved over to lathe work, I began with pens and small projects, moved on to bigger bowls and platters. The last several years I've been concentrating on hats. I have learned much since I became a member of the Woodturners of St. Louis and the AAW. They contributed to my skills and help give me greater insight into the possibilities, not to mention the great friendships. |
